Has book blogging changed my reading habits?

Hello everyone!

So today I thought I’d do a short blog post on whether becoming a book blogger has changed my reading habits. I saw this idea over on Boats Against the Current and thought it would be a cool way to kind of mark my book blogging journey which I have been on for nearly two years.

So, has book blogging changed my reading habits?

I’d say the biggest reading habit that’s changed for me is that I use my kindle a lot more now. I like to jot down my thoughts down whilst reading a book because it helps for when I need to write a review but I find that being able to highlight passages and make notes on the Kindle is so handy! When I read Queen of Shadows, I went a bit crazy with my highlighting as I even had a bit of a colour system going on.

I still love to read all the same genres (YA, YA Fantasy, Historical Fiction) however I have added some pretty cool books to my TBR shelf that I would have never come across had I not seen it being recommended by another book blogger.

I guess I could also say that being a book blogger has kept me in touch with my love for books. I haven’t been able to read as much as I’d like to because I’m really bad at balancing time spent studying and time spend reading for fun (especially if it’s a new book that’s extremely good). However because I can easily keep up with my Bookstagram or scroll through my Twitter timeline to see what the book blogging community are up to, I find that these things have really helped me to still feel engaged with my love for books, even if I’m not physically reading them as much as I’d like to. On a side note, if anyone else finds that they’re in a similar situation, my advice would be to reread a favourite book. I find that it’s easier to pull myself away from something I’m already familiar with but mostly, it’s incredibly comforting to reread something you love during a time when you might be feeling stressed out because of your studies.

So generally, I think my reading habits have changed a little but being a book blogger has definitely helped to nurture my love for reading!

Best wishes xo

  1. I’ve definitely started using my Kindle a lot more since becoming a book blogger too, although I’ve never used it for highlighting things or making notes for reviews (although that’s a great idea, so I may start doing that now!). There’s just so many books I want to read now, that I don’t have room to keep them all, and often the ebook is cheaper, which I think is why I used my Kindle so much more.
And I’m the same in that I still read mostly the same genres I’ve always read (fantasy, YA and historical fiction for me too!) but I do branch out a lot more as I’ve got more and more recommendations from other bloggers.
    Great post! 🙂

    1. Ah I’m glad to hear you might try using the notes/highlighting feature- it can be a really helpful way to track your thoughts and feelings whilst you’re reading! And for sure, choosing to buy eBooks has a lot of perks that I think many book bloggers do find beneficial. It’s also nice to hear that you like the same genres too! I think if you love and enjoy a certain genre then there’s nothing wrong with continuing to read those types of books but as you said, I’ve definitely started to read more outside of my comfort zone due to the amazing recommendations and reviews from others in the book blogging community. Thank you for your comment and of course for sharing this post idea! I’m so sorry that it’s taken me a long time to reapond but your comment is very much appreciated! Take care xo
